The B.A./M.A.Ed. Accelerated Program in Psychology and Counseling prepares students who have the vocational desire to become counselors. Students in such a combined degree program will complete undergraduate coursework within the undergraduate Psychology Program and four (3-credit hour) courses within the Master’s level Counseling Program. This integration of coursework provides the opportunity for students to: a) complete their undergraduate bachelor’s degree, b) begin the master’s degree, and c) complete the graduate program in a shortened timespan. Completion of the graduate program degree will lead to eligibility for licensure as either a Licensed Professional Counselor (Clinical Mental Health) or Licensed Professional School Counselor.

Students are required to take the following courses:

PSYC 330 - Psychology of Learning
PSYC 335 - Adulthood and Aging
PSYC 351 - Social Psychology
CRJ/PSYC 443 - Adolescence and Juvenile Justice
PSYC 420 - Internship - students can choose practical experience or research experience (1-4 credits can be taken in a given semester)

M.A.Ed. Courses in the School Counseling Program (12 credit hours):

COUN 503 - Multicultural Counseling and Advocacy can replace PSYC 312 - Cultural Psychology
COUN 545 - Foundations of School Counseling can replace PSYC 420 - Internship
COUN 622 - Assessment in Counseling can replace PSYC 344 - Abnormal Psychology
COUN 662 - Counseling Children and Adolescence can replace PSYC 320 - Infant and Child Psychology
