B.A./M.A.Ed. Accelerated Program in Psychology and Counseling

The B.A./M.A.Ed. Accelerated Program in Psychology and Counseling prepares students who have the vocational desire to become counselors. Students in such a combined degree program will complete undergraduate coursework within the undergraduate Psychology Program and four (3-credit hour) courses within the Master’s-level Counseling Program. This integration of coursework provides the opportunity for students to: a) complete their undergraduate bachelor’s degree, b) begin the master’s degree, and c) complete the graduate program in a shortened timespan. Completion of this graduate program degree will lead to eligibility for licensure as either a Licensed Professional Counselor (Clinical Mental Health) or Licensed Professional School Counselor. 

Academic Requirements
Students must complete the following gateways before registering for any graduate
counseling courses:
Gateway #1: Declaration of major
Gateway #2: Approved application to the graduate counseling program

Application Process for the Graduate Counseling Program

  1. Sophomore standing or beyond
  2. An overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  3. Completion of a minimum of four PSYC-prefixed courses with an earned grade of B or higher in each course.
  4. Approved application to the graduate counseling program:
    a. Completed graduate application
    b. Submitted two references
    c. Submitted an autobiography
    d. Successfully participated in an interview with a graduate program faculty member
    e. Formal admission notice received from the Director of the Graduate Counseling Program and the Graduate and Professional Studies Admissions Department

In order to remain in good standing in an accelerated program, students must:

  1. Maintain an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a B or higher in all PSYC-prefixed courses.
  2. Earn a B or higher in each of the graduate courses completed. If students earn lower than a B in any of the graduate-level courses, they may re-take those courses to earn a higher grade.

Students can choose one of the following accelerated program options:

  1. B.A. in Psychology and M.A.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling   
  2. B.A. in Psychology and M.A.Ed. in School Counseling  
  3. B.A. in Applied Psychology and M.A.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling  
  4. B.A. in Applied Psychology and M.A.Ed. in School Counseling
