The Associate of Arts in General Studies degree (the approval of which is pending with the Ohio Department of Higher Education) is intended primarily (although not strictly limited) for the adult student desiring to pursue or complete a degree that provides flexibility to meet life demands. The program provides the student with a general purpose credential and a first step in attaining a 4-year degree. It is a 60-credit-hour degree comprised of 39-40 required hours and 20-21 elective hours focusing on broad knowledge and skills acquisition. The specific form of the program is aligned closely with the Malone University General Education program and the learning outcomes of that program. It also includes a special 1-credit-hour Sophomore Capstone Portfolio Course requirement.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of theories and cultural influences that have shaped the world.
- Students should be able to demonstrate the ability to think critically and creatively.
- Students should be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in multiple contexts.
- Students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the foundations of the Christian faith and the role of service to the church, community, and world and apply this knowledge to ethical and social issues.
