Global and International Studies Minor

The Global and International Studies (GIS) minor seeks to prepare graduates to serve in a wide variety of contexts-including business, ministry, missions, politics, social work, and teaching-around the world. It is built around the theme of globalization, which orients students toward service to people both locally and abroad. The GIS minor offers a choice of two tracks:
Track A requires a semester or summer program of study abroad that includes language study in an approved CCCU or other program.
Track B requires domestic language study (at another institution) as well as a semester or summer program of study abroad that does not include language instruction.
Regardless of track, the core of the minor entails meeting four main requirements:
- Completing the 3-hour gateway course: .
- Studying a foreign language (3-8 hours, depending on the setting)
- Studying abroad (3 hours); prerequisite: POL 212
- Completing the 4-hour capstone course:

Track A (15-17 hours)
- POL 212 - Introduction to World Politics
- 3-5 hours of off-campus language study in a semester or summer study abroad program*
- 5 hours at the 300 or 400 level, at least 3 of which must be completed in a semester or summer study abroad program* (Prerequisite: POL 212)

Track B (16-18 hours)
- POL 212 - Introduction to World Politics
- Two semesters (6-8 hours) of foreign language study at another institution, regardless of proficiency level
- Malone summer course abroad ( ) or additional 300- or 400-level course in semester or summer study abroad program (3 hours)

Additional information
*As of March 2017, Malone-approved programs that require language study are as follows: 1) CCCU Latin America Studies Program, 2) CCCU Middle East Studies Program, 3) Romanian Studies Program, 4) Trinity Christian College Semester in Spain, 5) BCA in Athens (Greece), 6) BCA in Barcelona (Spain), 7) BCA in Brussels (Belgium), 8) BCA in Chennai (India), 9) BCA in Dalian (China), 10) BCA in Marburg (Germany), 11) BCA in Quito (Ecuador), 12) BCA in Tetouan (Morocco), 13) BCA in Valladolid (Spain), 14) BCA in Vienna (Austria), and 15) BCA in Xalapa (Mexico). Students in other study abroad programs can still complete Track A if they complete at least three hours of coursework in a foreign language while studying abroad.
