The Everett L. Cattell Library is located at the heart of Malone’s campus. The structure, which was built in 1972, contains more than 180,000 books, audiovisuals, and periodicals selected to support the needs of Malone’s course offerings. In addition to the extensive selection of items in areas such as religion, education, nursing, and literature, it also features specialized collections in juvenile literature, educational curriculum materials, music CDs, graphic novels, DVDs, and a section devoted to Friends Church writings and information. Along with the current Friends collection, the library houses the historical collection of the Evangelical Friends Church-Eastern Region, maintaining items such as missions records and artifacts, and Yearly Meeting minutes. The library also preserves Malone University’s historical archive, dating back to Walter and Emma Malone’s founding of the Cleveland Bible College.

The Cattell Library works with several statewide library partnerships such as OPAL, OhioLINK and SearchOhio, to provide easy access to more than 50 million physical and electronic books, journal articles, and audiovisual items. Malone students can link from Malone’s catalog to almost any college or university library in Ohio, as well as many public libraries throughout the state. Many full text items are immediately available. Physical items requested for delivery to Malone’s library generally arrive within three or four days.

Malone students can borrow most Cattell Library books for three months or until end of the current semester. DVDs circulate for one week. Books from other OPAL and OhioLINK libraries circulate for three weeks and can be renewed six times if no one else requests them. Malone periodicals and reference materials must be used in the library. Students can access online articles and books from any computer on- or off- campus through remote authentication.

Students can search more than 100 computer-based periodical indexes and reference databases, providing access to millions of full-text journals. Among these databases are Academic Search Complete, Business Source Complete, CINAHL (nursing), ERIC (education), Sport Discus, America History and Life, Education Research Complete, LexisNexis Academic, and PsycINFO. The library also provides links to ATLA Religion Database, Christian Periodical Index, and Social Work Abstracts.
