(Bachelor of Science in Education)
This program leads to the Bachelor of Science in Education degree and the Ohio multi-age licensure for teaching music to learners (PreK-12). In addition to the University requirements listed in Majors , students pursuing the Music Education major must maintain a minimum 2.75 major and cumulative GPA, pass the piano proficiency, and pass the sophomore review to progress through the teacher licensure program.
Candidates are required to earn a minimum grade of C (2.0) for all EDUC and SPED courses and may repeat a course only once. To register for education courses at the 300 level or above, acceptance into Teacher Education is required. The major in Music Education consists of the following:
Keyboard and Theory Placement Tests prior to the first semester of classes
Piano proficiency (Students must pass the piano proficiency examination before being accepted into the major.)
Participation in OCMEA is required each semester of enrollment (fee required)
Recital attendance each semester of enrollment including the semester of student teaching
Note(s):
If the student does not pass the entire piano proficiency examination at the conclusion of MUS 154, applied piano must be taken each semester until the exam is passed.
Applied Lesson and Ensemble Credit (14 hours)
6 hours of approved ensemble credit
4 in major ensemble; 2 in secondary ensemble
Professional Education (35 hours)
