The Intervention Specialist: Mild/Moderate program is designed to prepare teachers who desire to teach students with mild/moderate educational needs. Candidates who complete the program are eligible for the Intervention Specialist license, valid for teaching K-12 learners with mild/moderate educational needs. A prerequisite for the Intervention Specialist program is Ohio licensure in Elementary Education (1-8) or Early Childhood Licensure (PreK-3), and an introductory course in Special Education (3 semester hours). Teachers with certification/licensure other than Elementary or Early Childhood Licensure may need to meet additional requirements. Non-degree candidates may elect to complete the minimum number of hours required for the Intervention Specialist: Mild/Moderate license (see *EDUC and *SPED courses below). A specialty examination is required by the Ohio Department of Education for the license. The program also includes coursework needed to be eligible for the Ohio Reading Endorsement. A separate specialty examination is required by the Ohio Department of Education for the endorsement.

The degree program consists of a 13 semester hours of Foundation courses and 27 semester hours of Core courses as outlined below.
