Joint Engineering Program with The University of Akron


This unique program utilizes the strengths of both Universities. For Malone, these include a strong, Christ-centered, liberal arts base and small class sizes for the foundational courses in science and mathematics. For The University of Akron, these include an excellent engineering curriculum and a strong co-op program. The five-year program splits time at Malone with time at Akron, with some occasional blending of time at both. It is designed for students to take nearly all general education and foundational science courses at Malone and engineering courses and co-op through Akron, culminating in two degrees, a B.A. in Physical Sciences from Malone University and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Akron.

Additional Information


For successful continuation of the program, students must meet the transfer requirements of The University of Akron School of Engineering. These are as follows:

  • Complete at least 30 semester hours of coursework post high school
  • Complete Calculus II with a C - or higher
  • Have a 2.3 grade point average in at least three of the following categories:

o   In all coursework

o   In all engineering coursework

o   In all required mathematics coursework

o   In all required science coursework (chemistry, physics, computer science, biology)
