Sport Management, BA


A major in Sport Management prepares students for leadership in sport and recreational management with possible employment opportunities with professional sports teams, colleges and universities, government agencies, city recreation departments, private clubs, and YMCAs.

A major consists of 58 hours of accounting, business administration, economics, physical education, and sport management courses; and 3 hours of internship (SMGT 436).

Additional Information:


Students must have a minimum major GPA of 2.25 to graduate with the sport management major. BUS 240  meets the MATH/PSYC 140 requirement under the Foundational Skills (Quantitative Reasoning) component of the General Education program. ECON 202  meets the Understanding Persons in Society, in the Engaging in Human Experience requirements of the General Education program. SMGT 436  may be taken up to four (4) times; a student may register for 1-12 credits of SMGT 436, depending on the work and experience earned. (Note: 12 hours of SMGT 436 credit is the maximum allowed; 3 hours is the minimum in order to meet the requirements of this major.) A student who is not familiar with the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, should take BUS 112: Fundamentals of Computer Applications.

A student is able to earn a double major in business administration by the addition of the following six courses (18 hours):
