MSW 500 - Foundational Social Work

This course introduces students to the field of social work, exploring its history, values, ethical principles, and ethical faith and spirituality integration. Students will examine key frameworks, theories, and practices that inform social work, including systems theory, strengths-based approaches, anti-oppressive practice, and cultural competence. The course emphasizes the importance of self-awareness, professional identity, professional APA writing, and the significance of social justice in practice. Through interactive discussions, case studies, and reflective assignments, students will develop a comprehensive understanding of the roles and responsibilities of social workers, the various environments in which they operate, and the challenges they may encounter.
