COUN 562 - Techniques of Counseling(3) This course is designed to provide the counseling student with the techniques and skills associated with conducting individual counseling sessions with older adolescent and adult clients. Specific skills addressed are attending behaviors, use of questions, reflection of content, feeling and meaning, how to focus client responses, and how to move a client deeper in self- xploration. Various counseling strategies and techniques are explored to assist the student in developing the counseling relationship and evaluating and facilitating change. This course is highly practice-focused on student development of proficiency in basic listening and response skills. The student will observe, participate in, and critique a variety of designedto- illustrate methods to enhance skill development.Prerequisite(s): COUN 561 or permission of Program Director.Spring I, Spring II.
