ART 325 - Cartoons, Comics, and Graphic Novels (3) This course is an exploration of the important aspects of composing, drawing, inking, and publishing cartoons, comics, and the graphic novel. It will begin with single-panel gag-cartoons, progress to 3- or 4-panel strips, single pages, then to a multi-page graphic novel. Focus will be on the building blocks of visual storytelling: drawing, creating a character, composition, layout, narrative structure, inking, and lettering skills. Figure drawing and perspective are both important in visual storytelling; hence, considerable time will be devoted to perfecting the understanding of these essential skills. A variety of media that can be used to create comics will be explored.
Prerequisite(s): Sophomore status.
Offered Fall 2017 and alternate Fall semesters.
