Information Technologies and Media Services


The Information Technologies Department provides services for computer technology on the Malone campus. These services include reliable Internet access, e-mail, data storage on network drives, and support for all administrative computer systems used for campus operations. The IT Department is also responsible for the deployment and licensing of the hardware and software used on all Malone-owned computers.

Network Accounts

Every Malone University student is provided with a network account. Login procedures are explained during new student orientation sessions prior to the start of the fall semester. Login information is also posted on the IT web page. Every student is provided with a University e-mail account and a personal network drive for storing documents and course materials.

Campus Communication

To ensure timely communication across campus, each student is expected to check his/her Malone e-mail account at least weekly to obtain important University information and general announcements. The Vice President for Student Development must approve any campus-wide e-mail messages sent to all students.

Malone Xpress

Each student has personal online access to grade reports, class schedules, and financial information. This information can be viewed anywhere from which Internet access is available using a Malone network login. The login page is located in the Student Gateway on the Malone web site. Additional information about University news and events is posted on the Malone web site at www.malone.edu.

Computer Labs

Computer labs (Windows and Macintosh operating systems) are located in the following areas on campus:

  • Main floor of Cattell Library (Windows)
  • Lower level of Cattell Library (Windows)
  • Lower level of Cattell Library (Macintosh with specialized graphic and multimedia applications)
  • Regula Hall (Windows with specialized Nursing applications)
  • Timken Science Building (Windows)
  • Johnson Center (Macintosh with specialized Fine Arts applications)

Graduate students may use any of the computers in the library or computer labs for e-mail, Internet access, and class assignments.

Media Services

Media Services provides campus audio-visual equipment used for class instruction. The Media Services office is located in the lower level of the Cattell Library. Video cameras, digital cameras, laptop computers, projectors, and other types of equipment can be signed out for classroom presentations and assignments.

Help Desk Assistance

The Help Desk, located in the lower level of the Cattell Library, serves as a centralized point of contact to assist with the technological needs of the University. Support is provided for network connectivity, hardware availability and maintenance, and software questions. Technology requests may be placed by calling 330.471.8428, sending an email to helpdesk@malone.edu, or by logging into the web-based Help Desk system at www.malone.edu/helpdesk.

Computer Usage Policy

Electronic communication systems at the University and the data received, transmitted, or stored on such systems is University property and are to be used for the purpose of supporting the daily operation of the University. Messages and other information on University electronic communications systems are not considered private (i.e., the University reserves the right to monitor them with or without permission) despite any privacy designation by the sender or recipient. In addition to other disciplinary actions or remedies, the University reserves the right to shut down any computer account without notification should abuse of computer facilities or services be determined. E-mail and any other electronic messages should never contain defamatory, obscene, harassing, threatening, illegal, or fraudulent language. Students are expected to review the University’s entire Computer Usage Policy located on the University web site.
