Center for Student Success

The staff members of the Center for Student Success coordinate campus-wide efforts to promote learning and encourage success and retention through graduation. We continually look for ways to improve student satisfaction and connection with the Malone community.

The Center for Student Success offers the following services to all Malone students:

Advising

We begin working with new students upon completion of the online Pre-Registration Survey to schedule classes for their first semester. Continuous academic advising will be provided for all undecided majors and on-campus College Credit Plus (CCP) participants.

Students transitioning to Malone University from high school or another college/university will find assistance in the following areas:

  • Exploring various majors and career interests
  • Examining how academic strengths fit into career objectives
  • Developing an action plan to bring objectives into reality
  • Understanding various testing options available in gaining academic credit
  • Achieving academic goals by meeting with advisors in the Center early and often

Career Development and Counseling Services

Our mission is to assist students as they begin to discover God’s plan for their career/vocational goals. We seek to prepare students for making informed choices about the alignment of their skills and interests with chosen fields of study.

Students can begin exploring career options and gaining direction by using Malone.MyPlan.com. This free resource helps students assess personality preferences, skills, interests, and work values. Students can research hundreds of occupations and academic programs to determine their best fit. The system will also help students determine which careers match with their major areas of study. We are happy to meet with students needing assistance to interpret the test results.

Students uncertain of their career paths can receive free career counseling by trained counselors by appointment.

College Central Network is a web-based job posting and résumé referral system that connects students with employers in the Northeast Ohio area and nationwide. Features include a national online job/internship posting board, résumé template with a variety of styles from which to choose, career-related announcements of on- and off-campus events, document library, and career advice videos. More information is available at vocation@malone.edu.

Student Accessibility Services

Support Services are provided by the CSS to empower students with qualifying disabilities to maximize their educational and academic potential. Students seeking those services must provide documentation of their specific disabilities (physical, learning, or psychological). Based on the received documentation, academic accommodations, housing accommodations, adaptive technology, and social support can be provided.

Students with disabilities should call the office for individual pre-enrollment appointments if they choose to self-disclose disabilities and plan to request accommodations. We will work with each individual student to determine appropriate accommodations. All students with disabilities are responsible to request the renewal of the accommodations prior to the start of each semester for as many of their classes as they so choose.

Student Retention

In order to be successful, overcome enrollment and/or academic obstacles, and to complete the college degree, the retention advisor offers help and connects students with available campus-wide resources.

Faculty and staff members can submit confidential concerns regarding poor attendance, missed assignments, inadequate grades, potential transfer plans or other difficulties a student faces in the Jenzabar Early Alert System. In confidential meetings those concerns will be discussed and assistance is offered as needed.
