BA/MAEd Accelerated Program in Social Work and Counseling

Exceptional undergraduate social work majors, who have an established a record of academic excellence, can choose to complete the combined bachelor’s/master’s degree accelerated program. This program consists of the existing B.A. in Social Work program and the M.A.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. Approval to pursue this accelerated program, will allow students to complete up to 12 graduate credit hours while completing their B.A. program degree. These graduate credit hours will be counted towards both the B.A. degree and the M.A.Ed. degree.

Admission Requirements:

  1. Applicants must maintain an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in the B.A. program and they must earn a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in each of the graduate courses completed to be accepted as regular status into the M.A.Ed. Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. If students earn lower than a B in any of the graduate-level courses, they may re-take those courses to earn a higher grade.
  2. Applicants are required to reach sophomore status before applying to this program.

M.A.Ed. Courses in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program (12 hours):

To be eligible to enter the major, a student must complete an application packet, be interviewed by a faculty member, and receive permission to enter into the major. Student progress will be monitored to continue in the major. The application process is outlined in the Social Work Program Handbook.

Students must receive a C or higher in SWK 345, SWK 347, SWK 348 and SWK 401 and must maintain a minimum of a 3.0 major GPA. To remain in the program, students must abide by the NASW Code of Ethics and by program policies as outlined within the Social Work Program Handbook.

The sequence of courses is complemented with a 450-hour senior practicum. This practicum is usually completed during the spring semester of the senior year.
