Center for Student Success


The staff members of the Center for Student Success coordinate campus-wide efforts to promote learning and encourage success and retention through graduation. We continually look for ways to improve student satisfaction and connection with the Malone community.

The Center for Student Success offers the following to all Malone students:

Advising and Testing Services

 We begin working with new students as soon as they complete the online registration survey to schedule first semester classes. We also work with students taking ACT residual tests, CLEP tests, COMPASS placement tests, and when special accommodations are needed for testing. We also proctor tests for other institutions upon request.

Some of our services to new students as they transition into Malone University from high school or another college or university include helping students:

  • Explore various majors and career interests
  • Examine how their academic strengths fit into career objectives
  • Develop an action plan to bring objectives into reality
  • Understand various testing options that might be available in gaining academic credit
  • Achieve their academic goals by availing themselves of individualized services available from CSS

Career Development Services

Training and equipping for successful preparationconnectiontransition from university student to professional

Our mission is to assist students as they discover God’s plan for their career/vocational goals. We seek to prepare students for effective internships, career-entry positions and/or graduate school searches. Specifically we are prepared to train students in:

  • Career decision making
  • Career development strategies
  • Job search skills

We work to equip students with the necessary skills to:

  • Explore career fields and areas of vocational interest
  • Gain appropriate career/vocational related experience
  • Present themselves as viable candidates
  • Conduct successful job searches
  • Complete standout applications to graduate schools

Students can begin exploring career options and gaining direction by using Malone.MyPlan.com. This free resource helps students assess personality preferences, skills, interests, and work values. Students can research hundreds of occupations and academic programs to determine their best fit. The system will also help students determine which careers match with their major areas of study. We are happy to meet with students needing assistance to interpret the test results.

Students may attend workshops or make individual appointments in order to: 

  • Build professional résumés and cover letters
  • Develop effective interviewing skills (Perfect Interview is available on demand for mock interviews.)

MaloneCareerConnect.com is a web-based job posting and résumé referral system that connects students with employers in the Northeast Ohio area and nationwide. Features include an online résumé template with a variety of styles from which to choose, automatic review of uploaded résumés, career-related announcements of on- and off-campus events, document library, and career advice videos.

Student Accessibility Services

We provide services for qualified students with disabilities in order to maximize their educational opportunities and academic potential. Students seeking services must provide documentation of their specific disabilities (physical, learning, or psychological). We are then permitted to provide and/or arrange accommodations, auxiliary aids, referrals for testing, and counseling support.

Students with disabilities should call the office for individual pre-enrollment appointments if they choose to self-disclose disabilities and plan to request accommodations. Upon receipt of the correct and complete documentation of the disabilities, we will work with them to determine appropriate accommodations. All students with disabilities are responsible to request the renewal of the accommodations prior to the start of each semester for as many of their classes as they so choose.

Study Skill and Peer Tutoring Services

We are prepared to help students learn how to study efficiently and effectively. Successful students spend 2 hours outside of class working on academic endeavors for every 1 hour in the actual classroom. They understand that being a full-time student is the equivalent of a full-time job. Other commitments, including co-curricular and employment obligations, must be balanced to leave time for health and relaxation. The term ‘homework’ represents only a small piece of this commitment; and students quickly learn the art of ‘studying’ includes reading, research, making and reviewing class and reading notes, drafting, revising, and editing papers, creating and reviewing study tools (such as flash cards and mind maps), creating and practicing test questions, sharing ideas with study partners, etc.

Study skill workshops are offered twice each semester with the Students for Success series. All students are invited to attend these one-hour presentations (topics vary) and/or meet individually with office staff to discuss strategies including the following:

  • Time management
  • Reading strategies
  • Note-taking strategies
  • Overcoming test anxiety
  • Making helpful classroom choices
  • Stress management
  • Integrating faith and learning
  • Understanding advising and graduation requirements

Free peer tutors are provided for subject content assistance and general study skill/accountability support. Students may attend posted walk-in sessions and/or make individual appointment requests with the peer tutors. Most 100- and 200-level courses are covered and we make every effort to connect students with tutors for any other subject request.
